Employee uses for the ‘new’ Internet: A questionnaire and survey (2008-2009) Dear Research Participant: The way we use the Internet has changed dramatically over past few years. The recent changes are most in apparent with the arrival and proliferation of Web 2.0 technologies, such as blogs, wikis, social networking platforms, peer-to-peer sharing web-sites. Whilst Web 2.0 is applied for many purposes, my research project considers the extent to which employees use the Internet as part of their jobs, but also as a tool in terms of a career development, as a means to find a new job, and a way to resolve employment-related problems. There has been very little research been conducted in this area and therefore your participation in my research project is hugely important in terms of helping to build a picture of how employees use the ‘new’ Internet for a multitude of purposes. I would therefore be grateful of you completing my questionnaire that asks for details of your employment-related and job-related uses for the Internet. Everything that you say in this questionnaire will remain confidential and completed forms are not available to any third parties. The questionnaire should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. If you need any help or want to know more about the survey please call or email myself (see below). The survey ends 31 May 2009. Many thanks for your help and feel free to pass on details of the questionnaire to friends or colleagues. Yours faithfully
James Richards Lecturer in Human Resources Management, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
